Head Start and Early Head Start are federally-funded, national child and family development programs which provide comprehensive services for pregnant women, children from birth to age five, and their families. Services for children promote school readiness, and include early education, health, nutrition, mental health, and services for children with special needs. Services for parents promote family engagement, and include parent leadership and social service supports. Champlain Valley Head Start offers center-based and home-based services to eligible families in various locations throughout Franklin, Grand Isle, Chittenden and Addison Counties. Who is Eligible?

Children who are 3 to 5 years old are eligible for Head Start services. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.

How to Enroll in Champlain Valley Head Start or Early Head Start If you are a parent of a child (birth to age five), or a pregnant woman, and you are interested in enrolling your child and family in Champlain Valley Head Start or Early Head Start, please follow these steps. Complete an application. Click the appropriate link below to download the appropriate CVHS application. Click here to enroll a child (birth to age five) Click here to enroll as a pregnant woman Gather the required income documentation. If you receive Reach Up, Child Care Financial Assistance, or Supplemental Security Income (SSI), please provide documentation of these benefits. If the child applying is a foster child, please provide DCF documentation or court orders documenting the child’s status as a foster child.
