The APIA Head Start program provides a half-day program which operates September thru May, and is designed to support children's physical, intellectual and social growth. Currently, we have center-based programs at Sand Point, St. Paul, Unalaska and King Cove, which collectively provide education, special needs, mental health, nutrition, and social services to a maximum of 72 children of preschool, ages 3 - 5, and their low-income families.

Who is Eligible?

Children who are 3 to 5 years old are eligible for Head Start services. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.

How to Apply
To apply refer to the enrollment application and APIA's Physical Form before a child's first day of school they must have completed a physical exam. Please use this exam form which includes all "Federally Mandated Health Requirements."
