Head Start is a national early childhood development program that promotes school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through the provision of educational, health, nutritional, social and other services to enrolled children and families.The Head Start program provides grants to local public and private non-profit and for-profit agencies to provide free comprehensive child development services to qualifying children and families.Each Head Start center engages parents in participating in their children's learning and also helps parents find resources to make progress toward their own educational, literacy and employment goals.

Who is Eligible?

Children who are 3 to 5 years old are eligible for Head Start services. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.

How to Apply
Enrollment First AME Child Development Center is an Early Head Start and Head Start/preschool that celebrates the diversity of its students, parents and staff. Multicultural learning is encouraged in all classroom activities. To enroll your child, please include the following documents to complete your child's application: Application (can be received at all 3 centers) Proof of Age (birth certificate, medical coupon, or passport) Proof of local address Proof of Family Income (W2, IRS 1040 forms, or 12 months of pay stubs) Immunization Records Proof of Childcare Voucher (for full-day classes at SVI) Current Well Child Exam (Medical) and Dental Exam For more information on Head Start/Early Head Start income guidelines and eligibility criteria, please contact Abby Mayers, Enrollment Lead, at 206-322-6637, or at abby.mayers@seafame.com.
