Head Start is a comprehensive child development program that serves low-income, preschool children and their families.Head Start provides families with educational services for their children and also addresses important issues such as nutrition, medical & dental services, mental health, social and emotional development and promotes parent involvement.Children learn the skills they need to be successful in school. They are exposed to new experiences like Fieldtrips, Family Enrichment Days and Family Fun Events.

Who is Eligible?

Children who are 3 to 5 years old are eligible for Head Start services. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.

How much does it cost?Head Start is free to all who qualify for the program. How can I enroll my childParents can complete the application process by stopping in at the Administrative Office year-round or at any of the Centers during the school year and completing an application. Please be sure to bring proof of income in the form of: Income tax form(1040),Current check stubs,TANF or Verification from Social Services,Social Security, ORUnemployment Compensation
