LEO’s Early Head Start program (EHS), SteppingStonesFamilyChildCareCenter, has been in operation since January, 2010. This program offers both home-based and center-based child care program options. EHS serves 84 children in total in a full-year program model. The home-based option serves approximately 36-39 infants and toddlers (ages 6 weeks to 2.9 years of age) and pregnant women. The center-based option serves approximately 45-48 infants and toddlers (ages 6 weeks to 2.9 years of age) in a full-day model. Classroom size does not exceed 8 children per classroom, which allows for quality one on one time between teachers and children.

Children who are 3 to 5 years old are eligible for Head Start services. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.
