Program Information
Head Start/Early Head Start is a Federal program for child and family development.
Focuses on ensuring children’s cognitive, social-emotional and health readiness for kindergarten.
Promotes family strengths for long term benefit to child and family.
Serves families with children from birth to kindergarten age and pregnant mothers.
$5 Million Budget: Head Start, Early Head Start, IL State Board of Education (ISBE), Child-Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), Full-day Child Care, Champaign County Developmental Disabilities Board.
106 Staff: 62 teaching staff, 12 family advocates, 6 bus drivers, 3 cooks, 3 clerks, 4 partnership mentors, 1 family services specialist, a mental health specialist, a secretary and 13 managers.

Who is Eligible?
Children who are 3 to 5 years old are eligible for Head Start services. Pregnant women and
children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and
families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for
services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be
eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some
grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines
as well.

How to Apply
Enrolling Your Child In order for your child to be considered for Head Start/Early Head Start, you will need to provide the following information:A completed applicationA copy of a certified birth certificateA copy of all the income your family receives. For example: 1040 tax return, W-2, two (2) most recent pay check stubs, Public Aid printouts, SSI information, child support or statement of earnings from employer.
