Community Action, Inc. (CAI) has expanded its Head Start program to include 18 more children and is one of three programs in Massachusetts to initiate an Early Head Start program. The Early Head Start program is for 72 infants/toddlers and 12 pregnant moms), ages conception until 3 years of age. The priority is to serve teen parents of low-income families as those most in need. CAI is currently conducting outreach for the new program and anticipates a waiting list.

Children who are 3 to 5 years old are eligible for Head Start services. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.

Families are encouraged to apply.

EligibilityPregnant women and families with children born 9/1/07 and after are eligible to apply for Early Head Start services. Priority is given to families that are considered income eligible. We process applications throughout the year and accept applicants as space permits.
