The Early Head Start (EHS) Program was introduced to EEC Head Start in 1998. At its inception, the program served 80 children in home-based programs. In 2001, the first center-based program was opened to serve 48 additional children. Currently, EHS serves two counties in Northwest Florida. EHS operates full-day, full-year programs.
Who is Eligible?
Children who are 3 to 5 years old are eligible for Head Start services. Pregnant women and
children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and
families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for
services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be
eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some
grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines
as well.
Families are encouraged to apply.
How to Apply
You may apply for Head Start or Early Head Start at EEC’s office from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. EEC is located in downtown Panama City at 450 Jenks Avenue. Remember to bring proof of income for the past 12 month’s and the child’s verification of age for eligibility purposes.
