Providing child development and family support services on a year-round basis, Early Head Start offers comprehensive child and family development activities to low-income pregnant women and families with infants and toddlers. Children from birth until their third birthday receive quality child care while parents obtain educational services and resources at one of four centers across Hinds County.
Who is Eligible?
Children who are 3 to 5 years old are eligible for Head Start services. Pregnant women and
children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and
families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for
services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be
eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some
grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines
as well.

How to Apply
Eligibility
Program serves infants and toddlers up to three years old and young pregnant mothers with priority given to pregnant teens. Families of children with disabilities are encouraged to apply. To apply, you must present the following: proof of child’s age; family income; residency in Hinds County; and a verification form from your doctor (if pregnant).
Dates and Times:
Applications can be taken at any Early Head Start site between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
