Early Head Start Home Visiting is an Evidence-Based Home Visiting model that utilizes the home and everyday routines as the young child’s primary learning environment. It provides comprehensive services which focus on child development, parenting education, and family support.
Who is Eligible?
Children who are 3 to 5 years old are eligible for Head Start services. Pregnant women and
children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and
families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for
services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be
eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some
grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines
as well.
Families are encouraged to apply.
How to Apply
Early Head Start serves pregnant women, infants and toddlers. Head Start serves preschool children, ages 3 and 4 years old.Eligibility:At least one of the following criteria must be met in order to be eligible for either program:Family income must be at or below the federal poverty guideline, orFamily is receiving public assistance (TANF or SSI), orFamily is homeless, orThe child is in foster care, orThe child has a diagnosed disability.There is no charge for the Early Head Start or Head Start services. Early Head Start services are provided through home visiting.
