Early Head StartMISSION STATEMENTThe mission of Palmdale School District Early Childhood Education program is to provide a high quality, comprehensive preschool program for eligible children and families. We pledge to nurture, sustain, and educate children and families in a positive learning and social environment that supports the desired child outcomes and promotes academic success. We are committed to fostering the self-esteem of children and families so they may experience personal and social success. The program assists children and families in using all available community resources to meet their individual needs in this changing and diverse society.

Who is Eligible?

Children who are 3 to 5 years old are eligible for Head Start services. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.

How to Apply
ENROLLMENT Enrollment in the LAUP program will be open and nondiscriminatory. Children cannot be denied enrollment in the LAUP program on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, religion or disability. Children must be four years of age on or before December 2, 2005 to participate in the program for the 2005-2006 school year and reside in Los Angeles County. Reasonable accommodations for children identified as eligible for special education and/or related services under the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA). When a referral is made for a child who may potentially have a disability, the request is submitted to the special education program in the public school system in which the child resides.
