The Early Childhood Center has many community partners housed in the newest school district building at 516 Teller Street in Salida. This "green" building houses Chaffee County Head Start & Early Head Start, Colorado Preschool Program, The Two's Program, Special Education for ages 3-5 and the Early Childhood Council. Children who are 3 to 5 years old are eligible for Head Start services. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.

PRESCHOOL: If your child will be 3 years old on or before October 1st, 2010 but not 5 years old and eligible for kindergarten please call, stop by or download an application on our Documents Page. You must bring in your child's birth certificate and proof of your income. Preference will be given to 4 year olds and children with any risk factors. We also have fee-based spots. There will be two full day classrooms and one half day. There are several funding sources, including Head Start, Colorado Preschool Program, Special Education, and private fee-based tuition. OTHER PROGRAMS: Please call and inquire about the Early Head Start program for childhren under three as well as the Two's Early Learning Program.
