HEAD START– Head Start provides a no fee educational experience for 3- and 4-year-old children who meet specific eligibility requirements: low-income, homeless or child with identified special needs. You must be a City of Lakewood resident to participate in the Head Start program. If you live outside of the City of Lakewood, we will assist with resources upon request. Families with special needs are encouraged to apply. In order to be eligible for the current program year, children must be 3 years old but not yet 5 years old, by October 1.

Who is Eligible?

Children who are 3 to 5 years old are eligible for Head Start services. Pregnant women and children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines as well.

How to Apply
ApplicationChildren must be at least 3 years old and not yet 5 years old on or before October 1, 2011 to be eligible for the Head Start during the 2010-2011 school year.
