Who is Eligible?
Children who are 3 to 5 years old are eligible for Head Start services. Pregnant women and
children from birth to 3 years of age are eligible for Early Head Start services. Children and
families who are homeless, in foster care, or receive TANF or SSI are also eligible for
services. Eligibility is determined by Head Start program staff and some families may be
eligible for services if they are determined to be at or below the federal poverty level. Some
grantees enroll a percentage of children from families with incomes above the Poverty Guidelines
as well.
Families are encouraged to apply.
How to Apply
Eligibility & Family Services
Registration:
All families are welcome to apply for services. There are a few steps you will need to take to register for the Head Start program. These are necessary to ensure that your family receives the best possible service. There are a number of forms for you to fill out that will include questions about your family’s income. A Recruiter & Family Advocate or other staff member will help you work on these forms.
Race, color, religion, or nationality does not matter. There is no charge for services. These programs are to help you with the safety, health, education, and development of your child. Any time you have a question, please ask a Head Start staff member.
Selection / Eligibility:
Priority for actual selection will be based on the selection criteria. Points for each criterion will be assigned to each child. The child’s total points will determine his/her ranking in the total group of children eligible for that specific age/development
