Head Start is a federally funded preschool program designed for children of low income families 3-5 years of age. The program also provides services to children with special needs. The San Jacinto USD Head Start offers both Part-Day and Full-Day services. Part-day sessions are 3 ½ hours in the morning or afternoon, Monday through Thursday. The full-day sessions operate for 6 ½ hours, Monday through Friday. Children are served nutritious meals through out the day. Children in the morning sessions receive breakfast & lunch. In the afternoon sessions, the children receive lunch & snack. The children in the full-day sessions receive breakfast, lunch, & snack. The curriculum is based on meeting each child’s individual needs in preparing them for kindergarten. The classrooms are staff with qualified instructors, teachers are certificated and instructional aides have experience and training in early childhood studies. In the classrooms the teachers meet the individual developmental needs of each child through a developmentally challenging and appropriate program that includes the child’s social/emotional development, cognitive development, physical development, creative development, and language development. We believe in serving the “whole child†which includes the child’s family and community. Parents are an important part of our program and we believe parents are the child’s primary teacher. Therefore, parent participation in the program is highly encouraged.
