Description:: The Head Start program of the Big Sandy Area Community Action Partnership, along with 6 delegate school systems, serve a total of 1219 children and their families throughout a 5 county area. At least 90% of these children are from low-income families or are eligible under other criteria that Head Start recognizes as being in need. The Big Sandy area has benefited from the Head Start program for over 40 years and children continue to receive a valuable early childhood foundation and school readiness in our 69 center-based and 1 home-based classroom each year
