How To Apply:
How do parents apply for the MCPS Prekindergarten/Head Start Programs?Registration for the 2011-2012 school year will begin on March 1, 2011. Walk-in applications are accepted Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m at Rocking Horse Road Center, 4910 Macon Road, Room 141, Rockville, Maryland 20852. Applications will also be accepted on selected weekday evenings and Saturdays as well as at other community locations. MCPS Prekindergarten and Head Start programs offer a high-quality educational experience to income-eligible children in order to prepare them with the foundational knowledge and skills necessary for school success in kindergarten and beyond. There are 137 classes for four year old children and two classes for three year old children throughout the county. Most Head Start class sessions are 3 hours and 15 minutes long. A full-day Head Start program is offered in select Title I elementary school locations. Prekindergarten class sessions are 2 hours and 30 minutes long. For families that qualify, there are a limited number of spaces available in two community-based full-day, full-year programs in childcare centers.
