Description:
Greene Lamp Head Start is a comprehensive child development program serving low-income three and four year old children and their families in Lenoir and Greene Counties. Priority is given to four-year olds. Head Start provides services to 311 children and their families. Children must be 3 or 4 years of age on or before August 31st. The program’s major goal is to provide a child development program that will encompass educational, medical, dental, nutritional, mental health, social services, and parent needs, as they relate to the individual child and his/her family and community. Children with special needs are mainstreamed with other children. Head Start receives $1.5 million in federal funding from the Department of Health and Human Services. A 20% match is provided by local agencies, local vendors, and volunteers. The Head Start project provides services to children for 6 hour days (8:30 am – 2:30 pm).
