It's federally funded Head Start Program services over 700 children and their families in the South Bronx region. The Head Start model of childcare services began in the early days of the Civil Rights Movement and was formalized in the mid 60Ã¢â‚¬â„¢s. The mission then was to give children of poor families an enhanced educational, health, and social experience through enrollment in a Head Start Program. Head Start continues to embrace these goals as its primary mission for the communities it serves.
