Federally-funded head start programs help prepare young children from low-income families, ages birth to five years old, and their parents for the social and educational challenges that young children face as they develop. Each head start program focuses on providing comprehensive services designed to enhance a child's emotional, social, cultural, language, reading, mathematics, science, health and nutrition education.

Launched in 1997, the Brooklyn Head Start program is a center-based, full day program designed to enhance the social competence of 3-5 year olds from low income families. The Head Start program serves 71 children and families residing in the Williamsburg and neighboring Bushwick communities. The program provides a comprehensive child development program to meet the children’s educational, emotional, social, health and nutritional needs.
