years old, and their parents for the social and educational challenges that young children face as they
develop. Each head start program focuses on providing comprehensive services designed to enhance a child's
emotional, social, cultural, language, reading, mathematics, science, health and nutrition education.

Head Start is a child development program designed for low-income families, to allow parents to go to work or back to school to receive the skills needed to foster economic independence. Meanwhile, this allows children to receive intervention by enhancing their physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development. The program focuses on practices essential to child development, family development, community building, and staff development. Head Start serves three and four year old children. Eligibility is determined according to the Federal Poverty Guidelines. The program is allowed to fill 10% of the enrollment slots with children who exceed the imcome guidelines, after all eligible children have been served. We have eleven classrooms through out Anderson County, most of which are located in elementary schools.

Head Start / Early Head Start is a Federal program for preschool children from low-income families. The program is operated by local non-profit organizations in almost every county in the United States. Children who attend participate in a variety of educational activities. They also receive free medical and dental care, have healthy meals and snacks, and enjoy playing indoors and outdoors in a safe environment. Head Start / Early Head Start strives to help all children succeed and services are offered to meet the special needs of children with disabilities. The program serves children 6 weeks to 4 years of age, who meet the Federal income guidelines.

Head startThis program is for children ages 3 to 5. It is a comprehensive child development program which is child focused and has the overall goal of increasing the school readiness of young children in low-income families.

Children who fall significantly behind in language, and cognitive ability in early childhood are likely to remain behind for the rest of their lives.
The main goal of the education unit of the L.B.J. & C. Head Start Program is to provide a child development program that will help children gain the social competence, developmental skills, and confidence necessary to be prepared to succeed in their present environment and with later responsibilities in school and life.
The Metropolitan Action Commission Head Start Program of Nashville provides free pre-school education for income-eligible children ages 3-5 years old. There are 7 Head Start Centers and 3 partner sites throughout Nashville. This program is funded to serve 1,485 children, making it the largest provider of early childhood education in Davidson County.
